The Szeged Open Air Festival is the largest and most significant open-air theatre festival in Hungary. The first performance was held in front of the Votive Church on June 13, 1931, and since then the open-air productions have been the main cultural event in Szeged every summer. Nearly seventy thousand people are amazed by the magically atmospheric series of theatre events every year. During the performances, theatre lovers fill the city, conjuring a real, bustling festival atmosphere into the Mediterranean-style evenings of Szeged.
